They are a common problem here in the Triad and across the state. The venom of a fire ant sting causes stinging and swells into a bump. This can cause much pain and irritation at times, especially when stung repeatedly by several at once. The bump often forms into a white pustule, which is at risk of becoming infected if scratched; however, if left alone, it will usually go down within a few days. The pustules are unattractive and uncomfortable while active and, if the sting sites become infected, can turn into scars. Additionally, some people are allergic to the venom and, as with many allergies, may experience anaphylaxis, which requires emergency treatment. An antihistamine or topical corticosteroids may help reduce the itching. Here is a pic of multiple fire ant bites.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlTy8tkF2YyOAhxquC6sswYNQbLo28zVj5CWCSYbN6p3GUJLGlynYuTpr1KS-YZoJRXejywISOpaOHFQbn2t2PvSesnDnsFDKWvd_Hvsg741O5acFUkAd8QkhYdYB6XWwvJyxZKrU-pq4x/s1600-h/150px-FireAntBite.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 150px; height: 216px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlTy8tkF2YyOAhxquC6sswYNQbLo28zVj5CWCSYbN6p3GUJLGlynYuTpr1KS-YZoJRXejywISOpaOHFQbn2t2PvSesnDnsFDKWvd_Hvsg741O5acFUkAd8QkhYdYB6XWwvJyxZKrU-pq4x/s320/150px-FireAntBite.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5441444877637949074" border="0" /></a><div style="text-align: left;">Have you ever wondered what a fire ant sounds like? Just like us, termites and other pests and wildlife don't want to be in the cold. They seek refuge wherever there is warmth. If you don't have your home treated regularly, you can become a victim of unwanted, and sometimes dangerous and destructive creatures. Donna Parrish, one half of the owners at The Dead Pest Society, took some time talk about what the staff has encountered this week after the heavy snow.<br /><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /><embed src="http://ia360936.us.archive.org/0/items/DpsTermitesSeg1/Donna0204seg1.mp3" volume="50" loop="true" controls="console" autostart="FALSE" width="128" height="20"></embed></div><br /><br />If you or someone you know has or suspects they have termites Donna gives this piece of advice:<br /><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /><embed src="http://ia341335.us.archive.org/3/items/DpsTermitesSeg2/Donna0204seg2.mp3" volume="50" loop="true" controls="console" autostart="FALSE" width="128" height="20"></embed></div><br /><br />Another issue this week has been...squirrels. For woodchucks and other rodents, we can take care of the problem.Dead Pest Societyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13978460121429394528noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4656959824783600395.post-50447572654644503052010-02-01T08:00:00.001-05:002010-02-02T15:14:12.873-05:00Welcome to The Dead Pest Society Blog<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxB0Zfa1i4wqEj-uNHyx9QU5_fbh78tRIYq_tDFHiZNKuyE0YZ8VSKrBKOffFjLSL7SAPE_cM1_pCddZLkmKmFrBa9NkqD0HD9tgLvoahxgtcxRQQb7PY0pqXHGn16UlH4dnQpUcC4uGfh/s1600-h/bug+with+bullseye.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 120px; height: 120px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxB0Zfa1i4wqEj-uNHyx9QU5_fbh78tRIYq_tDFHiZNKuyE0YZ8VSKrBKOffFjLSL7SAPE_cM1_pCddZLkmKmFrBa9NkqD0HD9tgLvoahxgtcxRQQb7PY0pqXHGn16UlH4dnQpUcC4uGfh/s200/bug+with+bullseye.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5433370584352175250" border="0" /></a>Hi and thank you for coming to our blog! The owner of the restaurant thought that there could be a problem with roaches, and sure enough, when Donna put the bait down and came back 15 minutes later, these guys had made their way down to the bait.<br />Take care of roaches before they overtake your house. Here's a fact about the folks at Dead Pest Society. They have a gift of being able to walk into place and actually smell if there is a roach infestation.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">Here's another pic of those roaches:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizMZc9-lmnM6OiYulv-MsM7tNBa5GPF7zhtIXXumuKnermlDYcGSvkwQYZkWgFgtdzR5LhBnLH1zb_RoqmD-3AE00mufEsTTxQsTck2nnYrsLxOd9LYpATecLaYR4MRduOHgB_D8-Y017q/s1600-h/roach2.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 306px; height: 229px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizMZc9-lmnM6OiYulv-MsM7tNBa5GPF7zhtIXXumuKnermlDYcGSvkwQYZkWgFgtdzR5LhBnLH1zb_RoqmD-3AE00mufEsTTxQsTck2nnYrsLxOd9LYpATecLaYR4MRduOHgB_D8-Y017q/s200/roach2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5433459013832439218" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_black_widow" target="_blank"> </a>Dead Pest Societyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13978460121429394528noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4656959824783600395.post-22822520893847169912010-01-13T21:43:00.004-05:002010-02-01T21:16:44.144-05:00Termites<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjubNzB_9w05Tv2S9rJJFuxHNCZr2SMe3ctVCWk8HZjqlef0uyMzVPOyLlEv-0wiYn33NKwyXE6Sfcn5hTPGpz_HPC0fxd71iA54mTlwlknGfxvlll5jOV_W45Q65R-wUw6jQYxiZtynPxi/s1600-h/termites2.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 160px; height: 90px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjubNzB_9w05Tv2S9rJJFuxHNCZr2SMe3ctVCWk8HZjqlef0uyMzVPOyLlEv-0wiYn33NKwyXE6Sfcn5hTPGpz_HPC0fxd71iA54mTlwlknGfxvlll5jOV_W45Q65R-wUw6jQYxiZtynPxi/s200/termites2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5433461807994275250" border="0" /></a>This is called a Termite tunnel. Many folks have the disillusion that if their house is built recently, that termites are nothing to worry about. Folks, get treated!!! This house was built in 2004 and is right here in the Triad. No preventative treatment has lead to 7 massive tunnels in this new home. Call us...let us take a look.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">Here is another pic of the termites' hard work:<br /></div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2auR5BNa_fVHkkhXZ3ZkslQ1mTbECuPhMGd7mrb8ITMjtpzbc79gG2nmZDP0rTT94lkSLFfx5FISMzgXEeKvZATKDvomkCGObKc3BQfFCoEUfSzmPxiQLeDdW0R0dC0qi3uCURTzjNKFS/s1600-h/termites1.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2auR5BNa_fVHkkhXZ3ZkslQ1mTbECuPhMGd7mrb8ITMjtpzbc79gG2nmZDP0rTT94lkSLFfx5FISMzgXEeKvZATKDvomkCGObKc3BQfFCoEUfSzmPxiQLeDdW0R0dC0qi3uCURTzjNKFS/s400/termites1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5433464010671853922" border="0" /></a>Dead Pest Societyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13978460121429394528noreply@blogger.com0
